/owls nest
Low impact construction with timber frame, timber insulation and timber cladding allow the building to touch the ground lightly. It also makes for a perfect combination of materials for the client who is self building.

Double height spaces encourage light to bounce around the interior and give a feeling of lightness. Larger sliding doors open onto outdoor decking that blends into the wild garden area.

/The Owls Nest creates a sustainable, low cost, 3 bedroom property on an infill site.
From the outset, the brief was to let the setting be the centre of attention. A simple building form with referencial detailing to that of a woodland cabin or surf shack - both fitting for a house nestled in a tree lined glade off the back of a surfers dream sandy beach break.
/sustainable attributes
Working closely with the client who was also the contractor we designed a ’simple’ form with a highly insulated practical structure. This meant less waste, less labour time, reduced cost in construction, and a warmer building with lower running costs.
/The building uses UFH run off a air source heat pump for space and water heating.
/It also has a solar array with a battery pack to account for its electrical loads.
/It is very close to being the ‘off grid cabin’ in the woods it looks like.
