We believe in learning from the building's natural setting to protect and enhance it through architectural intervention. Assembling concepts through a understanding of how culture, consumption, activity, work and interests of our clients meet together.

Designing sustainable buildings, built for lifestyle, inspired by landscape.
/about
STUDIO/gather is a young engaging Chartered Architect studio based in West Cornwall, founded by Julian J Mills. We are a small, but growing team of architects and master technicians.

We operate in a collaborative manner, looking to create timeless designs that enact joy and pleasure through both the process and the end result. Each project is approached through a similar fine-tuned creative exercise that explores the site's setting, local materials and design context along with clients' individual wants and needs. This forms a basis for an architectural output that is crafted, is beautiful, stands the test of time, and fulfills more than just a noted brief.
‘ ...collaborative designing to blend the essential lifestyle needs with the extraordinary. Using the natural setting to inform a crafted beautiful approach. While threading sustainability through the fabric of the project.. '

Our commissions range from works with listed buildings, terrace house extensions, stand-alone dwellings, barn conversions, garden studios - and everything in between.

The practice is built around an ethos of sustainability with our project architects/master technicians having this in their DNA;
Julian is a Chartered Architect, certified passive house designer, with a background in both natural and technical sustainability in buildings and our wider environment. Prior to forming S/g he has held positions as Design Director and associate of award-winning multi-disciplined architectural practices across the UK.
Emma is a highly skilled qualified architect who has recently joined us from Scotland. With her comes a wide knowledge base on multi housing and mix use schemes. One of her projects was recently nominated for an RIBA award.

Mel is the office manage with an ability to turn her hand to almost any task. Motivated, organised and client focused, Mel uses her skill sets from working in both larger interior design and software to keep us motivated and on track.

Oliver is a MCIAT Technologist with a deep understanding of construction and design. His back ground takes him from being on construction sites to designing what now takes place on them. As such, Oliver brings a measured, considered and highly buildable approach to his work.

Ian is our PHPP in-house expert, boasting an impressive depth of knowledge gained from his experience in various practices across Australia, Devon, and now his new home in Cornwall. Ian is a fountain of knowledge on all things EnerPHit, PHPP, and Retrofit. He loves nothing more than delving into the smallest of technical details.
